Important upgrade information

This upgrade section contains functionality changes that have been introduced in Management Center v10.1 or above. Any information that is new to this release is listed as Management Center 2025.3.

When upgrading server and database infrastructure it is best to upgrade by no more than two major versions in each step. Upgrading three or four versions in one operation is not a method that has been tested and could produce unexpected behavior. For further details relating to upgrades and compatibility please refer to the following Ivanti Community article.

Windows Server

Management Center 2025.3 requires Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or above. Microsoft mainstream support for both Windows Server 2008 and R2 ended on 13 January 2015, but Ivanti continues to support Windows Server 2008 R2 as a maintained platform.

Windows client

Support for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 has been deprecated for the Management Center Deployment Agent; therefore, the 10.x Deployment Agent (and above) now requires Windows 7 SP1 or above and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or above.

Microsoft extended support for Windows XP ended on 8 April 2014, mainstream support for Windows Vista ended on 10 April 2012.

In addition, both Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 must be updated to support SHA-256.

For details on SHA-256 requirements, please refer to the following Ivanti Community article.

SQL Server

Support for SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 has ended; the Management Center 10.x (and above) Management Server now requires SQL Server 2012 SP2 or above. Microsoft mainstream support for SQL Server 2008 and R2 ended on 8 July 2014.

Please refer to the Required utilities and components section for further details.

IIS websites

Except when performing an evaluation install or an in-place upgrade, Management Center 2018.1 and above no longer installs into the default IIS website. It now creates and installs into a new website called Management which can have two bindings specified, one that uses host headers on port 80 and another on port 7751, which are both configurable during setup. To use host headers on port 80, the DNS servers must be updated (refer to the Ivanti User Workspace Manager help for further information). In-place upgrades install into the default website, if that is where Management Center was previously installed.

When installing the Management Center in evaluation mode, to simplify the evaluation process we use the default IIS website and port 80 in a similar method to previous 8.x installations.

Take care not to install into the default website if other applications are using it because Management Center now uses the root of the IIS website where it is hosted. Further information is available in the Install and Upgrade Help.

SQL Server certificate validation for Management Server Configuration Portal

The Server Configuration Portal (SCP) now enables greater security for communications between the Management Server and its respective SQL Server instance. This is set up when creating the database connection in the portal, and existing connections may be changed to use these options. The options are shown as check boxes, and they are:

  • Encrypt Connection: All data transfers between the server and SQL are encrypted. This might affect performance.

  • Validate Server Certificate: The SQL certificate must be signed by a root certificate in the Management Server’s trusted root store. Also, the DNS name on the certificate must match the name used by Management Server for the SQL instance.

Encrypt Connection must be selected to select Validate Server Certificate.

PowerShell cmdlets use the default security for backward compatibility, but relevant cmdlets have the new parameters -ValidateServerCertificate and -EncryptConnection added to support the new feature.

On setup, Management Server uses these options for all communications with SQL Server. Refer to the Server Configuration Portal Scripting Guide for more information.

Management Center agent support for Windows ARM-based processor

The Management Center (MC) Agent now extends its support to Windows ARM-based processor, in addition to Windows x64-based processor. While no specific Management Center Agent features have been designed exclusively for Windows ARM-based processor, the core functionality of the MC Agent remains consistent across both Windows x64-based processor and Windows ARM-based processor.

  • All the Deployment Agent (CCA) functionality is compatible with ARM-based processor.

For more information, see Install the Deployment Agent on Managed Computers.

Installation steps for ARM User Workspace Manager 2025.3 on Windows ARM-based processor:
