How to Configure Idle Time Options
Idle time is the period of time that an application is running, but not in use, on a machine.
To configure idle time options for an application:
- If you haven't already done so, enable metering on the license unit
that contains the application:
- Right-click the license unit, point to Enable Metering, then click Yes.
- Optional: If you want to configure the application as concurrently
licensed, see
How to Configure a Concurrent Application.
Although the application does not have to be concurrently licensed in order to specify idle time options, selecting Only when user is waiting and applying it to a non-concurrent application ignores all idle time options because users cannot wait for a non-concurrent application.
- Determine whether you want to use one of the predefined control
profiles that include idle time options, or create a new control profile.
- If the application is a concurrent application, you can use one
of these two predefined control profiles:
- Prevent Concurrent Idle Time: Use the default idle time options.
- Prevent Concurrent Idle Time w/Wait List: Allows users to place themselves on a wait list.
- If you're creating a new control profile, use the options in the
Authorization and
Idle
Time tabs of the New Control Profile dialog box.
for example, if you want to discourage users from keeping an application open and unused on their desktops, you could allow everyone to use the application in the Authorization tab, then go to the Idle Time tab to set the number of minutes an application can be idle before a user receives a warning message.
- If the application is a concurrent application, you can use one
of these two predefined control profiles:
- Apply the control profile to the license unit that contains the
application:
- Right-click the license unit, then select Properties.
- In the license unit's Properties dialog box, select the Control tab.
- Select Use control profile, then select the appropriate profile from the drop-down list.
- Click OK.
