How Long Does it Take to Run an Inventory?

A number of factors affect the length of time it takes to complete the inventory process on Windows machines:

• Machine hardware (CPU speed, drive access times, etc.) and the number of files and folders on the machine
• Speed of the machine running the CAM Access Point
• Speed of the SQL Server machine hosting the CAM Database

The inventory process takes anywhere from 1-15 minutes to complete on one machine, with typical times being between three and five minutes. But when you inventory multiple machines at once, the length of time to complete the process does not increase linearly: the processes run in parallel. This means that simultaneously inventorying multiple machines completes much more quickly than inventorying each machine one at a time.
