The Machine Could Not Be Reached
Description: This error can occur when the machine is turned off, or when the RPC Service is not running.
Resolution: Try the following troubleshooting steps.
- Verify that the account you are using can access the
\\{machinename}\c$\{windows}\syswow64 folder. (On 32-bit machines, look for the
\system32folder instead.) If you cannot access this folder, the account doesn't
have the proper privileges.
Note: The CAM Administration Service is responsible for deploying the CAM Agent. Therefore, the computer running the CAM Administration Service must be able to access remote computers using the specified account. When you do the test above, log into the CAM Administration Service machine with the account you are using in CAM Administrator to deploy the agent, and then test access to the \system32 (or \syswow64) folder.
- If you can access the folder noted above, verify that you have WMI
access. To do so, launch the WMI Viewer from one of the following locations,
and then remotely connect to the target machine:
- On 64-bit machines: C:\Program Files (x86)\Cherwell Asset Management\CAM Administrator\WMIViewer\WMIViewer.html
- On 32-bit machines: C:\Program Files\Cherwell Asset Management\CAM Administrator\WMIViewer\WMIViewer.html
- Verify that WMI is enabled on the target machine.
- Repair or reinstall WMI. Please search Microsoft online resources for help with this.
- Check the following registry setting to make sure that DCOM is enabled on the target machine: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OLE\EnableDCOM. A value of Y indicates DCOM is enabled; N indicates it is disabled. Microsoft resources may provide more information on this subject.
