About the Org Unit Management Workspace

From the Org Unit Management workspace you can view organizational units and their hierarchies in a graphical tree view and see, at a glance, the configuration items that are associated with each organizational unit. The right-pane shows unassigned (not associated with any organizational unit) configuration items.

You can open each configuration item record and associate an organizational unit with it, or you can view and drag and drop configuration items from one organizational unit to another using the organizational unit tree. When you are installing the gateway, all configuration items are automatically associated with the parent or root organizational unit unless specified otherwise, as when you are doing a custom installation of the gateway. However, the configuration items that were not audited or that were added to the network after the gateway installation might not be associated with organizational units.

The Org Unit Management workspace lets you do the following:

•View the configuration items that are not associated with organizational units and quickly assign them to an organizational unit.

•Drag and drop configuration items from one organizational unit to another.

•View the operating system information, location, and owner of each configuration item.

•Open the configuration item record from a configuration item that is listed.

•Search from within the listed configuration items by the configuration item name, operating system, owner name, or location.

Do the following to access the Org Unit Management workspace:

1.Log into the Service Desk Console.

2.Open the Org Unit Management workspace.

About Synchronizing Active Directory Organization Units with HEAT Discovery

You can synchronize the organizational unit in your Active Directory structure to ISM Discovery. Once the structure has been synced you can scan for assets and begin to allocate or reallocate them based on the needs of your organization. Syncing can uncover any inconsistencies such as unused assets, or if an organizational unit was deleted, then finding assets not connected to an organizational unit.

If you previously synchronized the Active Directory organization units to ISM Discovery, changes made in the Active Directory organizational unit are reflected in ISM Discovery with some caveats.

•Any organizational units deleted in the Active Directory structure are also deleted in ISM Discovery along with any associated sub-organizational units. Assets previously grouped under these organizational units are not deleted, but are moved to the root organizational unit and can be reallocated.

•Any assets removed (or deleted) from Active Directory, are moved to the domain root organizational unit of the Active Directory.

Scanning and Synchronizing Active Directory to HEAT Discovery

1.Log into the Service Desk Console.

2.Open the Gateway workspace.

3.Click the Details tab.

4.Ensure that Sync Active Directory OUs is checked.

5.Click Scan Active Directory on the toolbar to scan the Active Directory structure and sync it to ISM Discovery.

6.To turn off the Active Directory organizational unit sync, go to the Gateway workspace and uncheck Sync Active Directory OUs.

Viewing and Associating Configuration Items with Organizational Units

1.Log in to the application as a ISM Discovery Manager.

2.Open the Organizational Unit Management workspace.

3.You can do the following from this workspace:

•Expand the root organizational unit to show all the organizational units that are under it and view the hierarchy of organizational units in a graphical tree view.

•Expand each child organizational unit to view the configuration items that are currently associated with the organizational unit. If appropriate, select a configuration item from the right pane, then drag and drop the configuration item to a different organizational unit. You can select multiple configuration items to drag and drop.

•Click Unassigned CIs on the left pane to display all the configuration items that are not associated with organizational units.

•If appropriate, select the unassigned configuration items, then drag and drop them to an organizational unit.

•Search for a configuration item within the list of displayed configuration items by entering a few letters of the configuration item name in the Search field.

•You can search by entering the entire string or a few letters of the configuration item name, operating system, owner name, or location. Click Refresh to clear the search criteria.

4.To open a record, select a configuration item from the list and double-click it.
