About Demand Management

Demand Management is the process an organization puts in place to internally collect new ideas, projects, and needs during the creation of a Portfolio.

Demands are called ideas during the initial stages of Demand management. Demands can be created by any Neurons for ITSM user, including Self Service users. The Demand Manager reviews the ideas and can put them into workflow for further detailed evaluation, approval, and consideration for inclusion in a Portfolio. During the detailed evaluation activities, the Demand is scored to help normalize a summary of the information for the approval and Portfolio review activities.

The Demand Management workflow steps through the following statuses:

Idea: Demands begin as ideas.

Evaluating: A Demand Manager adds more detailed information to assess the viability of a Demand. In this phase, you can add supporting information such as a low-level resource plan, benefits, sub-budgets, and risks.

Awaiting Approval: Stakeholders identified in the Evaluate phase approve a Demand before it can move forward. If the budget for a Demand is more than $1 million, it must also be approved by an executive approval group.

Assessing: After a Demand is approved, it stays in the Assessing status until a Project Manager or Portfolio Manager accepts the Demand into a Portfolio, where it becomes a Project.
