Working with PPM Resources
Role: Portfolio Manager, Project Manager, Demand Manager
Ivanti Neurons for PPM adds several enhancements to the Project, Demand, and Project Phase objects to help organizations manage Project Resourcing needs.
•The Resource Plans tab is used for tracking high-level role resource needs for a Demand or Project, searching for Resources based on Project Role and Estimated Start or End Date, and enabling selection of Resources to commit to a Project based on Remaining Capacity.
•Once you select Resources for a Resource Plan, you must commit the Resource Plan to add the Selected Resources to the Project or Project Phase.
•You can use the Resources tab to view the Resources committed to the Project and to create Tasks for them.
•Project Skills allow Project Managers to assign Skills to resources and make resourcing decisions based on skills necessary to complete a Project Task.
Prior to using the resourcing features, set up PPM Roles in the Configuration console using the Project Role object.
Create a Resource Plan
You can create a Resource Plan to estimate role resources and effort required if the demand is approved and turned into a project. You can either use the Resource Plan tab or Planning tab in the Demand workspace.
In the Resource Plan tab of a Demand
This section explains how to create a resource plan and add resources using the Resource Plans tab within a Demand workspace.
To create a Resource Plan
During the Evaluate phase of Demand, you can add a new Resource Plan as follows:
-
In the Resource Plans tab of a Demand, click New Resource Plan.
-
Enter the following information for the plan:
Field Description Role Select the type of resource you need to execute the work.
Select a role that is already defined in the Project Roles workspace.
Estimated Effort Hours Enter the time required for a resource to complete the work.
The time should be in Hours.Estimated Start Date Enter the date when the resource is expected to begin work. Estimated End Date Enter the date when the resource is expected to complete their work. Fields marked with an asterisk (
) are mandatory.
-
Click Save.
You have now created a Resource Plan in a Demand. You can create multiple Resource Plans based on your requirement.
The status of the Resource Plan appears as Initial.
To add resources in Resource Plan
Next, you can add resources to the Resource Plan you just created.
You can add required resources to the Resource Plan to meet the Estimated Effort Hours you defined earlier.
-
Select the Resource Plan, and click the Go to option to open it.
Under Available Resources tab, you can see the available resources that match the Project Role selected during Resource Plan creation. The Resource search displays all Resources associated with the selected Project Role, regardless of whether they have Remaining Capacity or not.
Based on the Remaining Capacity of each resource available between the Estimated Start and End Date, you can add the required resources to meet the Estimated Effort that you defined earlier in the Resource Plan.
-
Select the required resources from the Available Resources tab, and click Select Resource.
The selected resources will be added to the Selected Resources tab.
Once the Demand is approved as a Project, the Resource Plan and resource selections will be copied to the Project. Once the Resource Plan is Committed, the Selected Resources will be assigned to the Project or Phase under the Resources tab.
In the Project stage, you can further manage your Resource Plans.
