Provided DSM Services

DSM uses several components that are implemented as Windows services - the DSM Management Services:

  • DSM Runtime Service
  • Distribution Service
  • Service Installation Service

DSM Runtime Service

The DSM Suite uses an integrated installation service, the DSM Runtime Service. The DSM Runtime Service, which is installed on managed computers in the DSM environment, enables you to execute copy or registry change commands for which the logged-in user has no permissions.

Distribution Service

DSM uses an integrated service for distributing data to the subordinate depots. This service is installed on a Management Point (DSM server). For technical reasons you will also need the Distribution Service even if you are initially only using one depot (the Central Depot).

Service Installation Service (SIS)

There are several ways to install the DSM Runtime Service on the managed computers. The easiest method is to use an additional service, i.e., the Service Installation Service (SIS). Advantage: The DSM Runtime Service is automatically installed on every managed computer as soon as it is needed. The SIS runs as a Windows service on a Management Point (DSM server).
