Executing Changes (FastInstall)

To immediately implement all of the upcoming changes (policy instances) for a computer, please follow this procedure:

  1. Select one or more managed computers in the Object window.
  2. Choose the Execute Changes (FastInstall) task and then follow the wizard.

The Installer is started by the DSM Agent on the managed computer; the Installer performs the client synchronization and receives all upcoming policy instances that are waiting to be executed.
Prerequisite: the DSM Agent must be running!

The command can only be executed for active computers.
Packages with the execution property Only, when no user is logged on cannot be installed via the task Executing Changes.
Depending on the upcoming policy instances, the system will either reboot the computer (in case of an operating system re-installation via DSM OS Deployment) or else trigger checking for upcoming installations.

Even without a Management Point with Event Dispatcher in the site of the target computer, you can execute the changes on a managed computer immediately; however, we recommend that you have the BLS or a Management Point with Event Dispatcher "in the proximity" of the target computer to guarantee a safe execution.
If you are using DSM OS Deployment, a Management Point with OSD Proxy is sufficient as well.
The order in which the used Management Point is selected can be configured with the Management Point for 'Execute changes' and Troubleshooting computer variable (see online help for this variable).

If the selected computer can only be accessed from the BLS or Event Dispatcher via a firewall, please note that the following settings in the configuration table have to be specified:
Installation > Allow FastInstall via a TCP Port
Installation > FastInstall TCP Port
