Installing Software on an Offline Client
If you are using DSM the first time to install software on an offline computer, the offline client is managed first, then the current ICDB is copied there and then the assigned software packages are installed last. Finally, the system checks the installation status of the software packages, runs a client basic inventory and writes the data for the offline synchronization with the BLS (and DSMDB) to the storage medium.
Installing the DSM Client from a Storage Medium
Before being able to install software on an offline client, the system installs the DSM Client Binaries and the current ICDB and runs a basic inventory. If the offline client is already managed, the data is updated accordingly.
- Log on to the offline computer with the administrator's account.
- Connect the installation medium (USB memory stick, external hard drive) to the computer.
- Start the installationMedia.exe file on the installation medium.
- This starts the installation dialog.
The installation starts after 10 seconds. During this time you may abort the installation.
- The system manages the offline computer by installing the DSM Client Binaries or by updating existing data.
- The system runs the basic inventory and stores the data on the storage medium.
Installing Software from the Storage Medium
- When the basic inventory is finished, the AutoInstaller starts. The AutoInstaller checks the storage medium to see whether there are software packages ready to be installed and then starts their installation.
- After the installation process the system checks the software's installation status, runs a basic inventory and writes the data to the storage medium.
- Please remove the storage medium.
Please note that if the storage medium contains old data of an earlier installation, there will be no update!
