Configuring the Installation Process (Terminal Server)

After installing software packages you have to restart the computer. This may cause problems on Terminal Servers. For this reason, Ivanti DSM employs maintenance plans for Terminal Servers that differentiate between a maintenance timeframe and an operation timeframe.

Restarts are possible if a Terminal Server is in maintenance timeframe and no user is logged on. If a Terminal Server is in operation timeframe, users can log on to the Terminal Server and are able to work with the installed software.

Maintenance plans for Terminal Server allow you to automatically control the switch between the maintenance timeframe and the operation timeframe. Installations will be automatically executed in the maintenance timeframe and all users will be automatically logged off before the maintenance timeframe starts.

You can specify maintenance plans for all computers, however, for Terminal Servers they are especially important.
If you select Terminal Server when defining a maintenance timeframe, additional wizard dialogs will be displayed.
If you do not define a maintenance timeframe, the following applies:
Managed computers with server operating system (e.g. Terminal Servers) do not allow installations.
