Opening the DSM Console and the Views

To open the DSM Console, proceed as follows:

• Start the DSM Console (DSMC) with the following command line:
   \\<Depot Server>\<Share>\dsmc.exe

  The DSMC opens. The Organization view opens when you open the DSMC for the first time. The last view you had opened when you close the DSMC will always open when you open the DSMC the next time.
  

  Create the respective link so that you don't have to enter the command line every time.

  In a distributed DSM environment we recommend selecting the closest depot server in the IT infrastructure, for example a depot within the site of your workstation. This way you can avoid access issues.
  Anything you change in the DSMC is generally valid throughout the complete DSM environment, independent of the depot from where you start the DSMC.

• Select the view you want to open in the DSMC menu.

  Depending on the role or the administration permissions assigned to you, the respective view opens.

Required Administration Permissions and Roles

You need the permission for opening the DSMC and for using the different views.

To open the Infrastructure view...

• you need administration permissions.

• you need Read and Write access to the DSM share.

After the installation of Ivanti DSM all users can open the DSMC. To change this, you have to add at least one authorized user.

To open other views in the DSMC...

• you have to be the owner of the role that comprises the respective execution rights.

• the administrator, who installed Ivanti DSM, has to assign other role owners so that they are able to open a view.

When the initial installation of is finished, only the administrator who actually installed Ivanti DSM has the permission to open further views.
