Managing the Users of Mobile Devices (HEAT MDM only)
With Ivanti HEAT MDM, you can also manage and display the users of mobile devices in DSM (not only the mobile devices). This is done by linking the existing DSM users with the users of mobile devices in MDM.
How to link mobile device users from Ivanti HEAT MDM with DSM users:
- Open the Organization Tree in the DSM Console.
- Make sure that the Object window contains the DSM user you want to link the mobile device user from the MDM database with.
- Open the Users from MDM Database tab.
All users of mobile devices that are contained in the MDM database are displayed.
An MDM user that is already linked to the selected DSM user appears in bold letters. - Drag and drop the DSM user from the Object window to the appropriate mobile device user in the Detail window.
This links the two users.
If you open an MDM group, that contains the respective mobile device user, in the Managed Mobile Devices system container after synchronizing, the Object window shows the linked DSM user.
Note that MDM users that are not yet linked to a DSM user are not displayed in this view!
If a DSM user is not yet contained in the MDM database, you must use the task MDM > Add User in MDM Database instead of linking the user manually with drag and drop. After selecting the MDM organizations you want the user to be in, the user is transferred to MDM and also linked in DSM.
How to manage linked mobile device users directly in the DSM Console:
- Open the Organization Tree in the DSM Console.
- Open an MDM group in the Managed Mobile Devices system container.
If there is a link between the MDM and DSM users, they are displayed in the MDM group. - Select one of the following tasks to manage one of the displayed users:
Commands in the DSMC | Task |
---|---|
Delete Group Membership |
Use this command to delete the DSM user's membership from the group that is currently displayed. To delete the DSM user from the DSM database completely, you have to open the user in the DSM domain or DM OU it belongs to. Then you can select the Delete task. |
Properties |
Click Properties to display the mobile device user's DSM object properties. The Static Groups tab shows the MDM groups the mobile device user belongs to. To change group memberships, the Manage group memberships right is required for devices and users, and the Manage group members right is required for groups. |
The Properties tab contains a mobile device user's properties that are applied from the MDM database. These are, for example, the first name, the name or the available organizations.
These properties are only displayed on the Users from MDM Database Detail tab.
When you delete or change group memberships in DSM, this action may be undone automatically during a current synchronization because the changes have not yet been applied to the MDM database.
These actions are applied to the MDM database later and considered during the next synchronization.
