Adding Mobile Devices

Depending on the MDM solution you are using, the mobile devices are entered as objects in DSM automatically or manually. Instead of entering the mobile devices manually, you can import them with a csv file.

To manage mobile devices, the Manage Mobile Devices right is required.

Ivanti HEAT MDM

If you are using Ivanti HEAT MDM, there is no need to enter the mobile devices manually. As soon as the MDM Integration has been installed and configured, the mobile devices are synchronized automatically according to your settings. The mobile devices are automatically displayed for the respective organization in the list of Managed Mobile Devices when you have entered a Description in HEAT MDM.

Third-party MDM Solution

Unlike with HEAT MDM, the mobile devices from third-party MDM solutions must be entered and imported manually to the Managed Mobile Devices list.

How to create individual objects manually:

  1. Select the system container Managed Mobile Devices in the Organization Tree.
  2. Select the task Mobile Devices > Add Mobile Device.

    The Wizard starts.

  3. Enter the device name.
  4. Select an operating system and the version.
  5. Enter the reference ID that corresponds to the MDM solution's specifications for mobile devices.

    The reference ID links the new mobile device with the device details in the MDM solution.

  6. Click Continue.

    The mobile device is an object in the DSMC now.

How to import several objects with a CSV file:

  1. Open an Editor.
  2. In the first line, enter the following headers in the following order and then enter the mobile devices:
     Name;SchemaTag;MobileDeviceRefId;MobileDevice.OperatingSystem


    Example:
     Name;SchemaTag;MobileDeviceRefId;MobileDevice.OperatingSystem
     Android Android 2.2.;MobileDevice;311;Android
     TestGerät iPhone;MobileDevice;456;Windows Mobile

  3. Save your entries in a CSV file.
  4. Start the DSM Console.
  5. Select the Managed Mobile Devices system container in the Organization Treeand choose the task Import/Export > Import Organization Directory.

    The objects are visible in the site now.

  6. Select an object from the Object list and the Details tab.

    This tab contains all the details on the mobile device.
