Making a New Distribution Service Assignment

The first Distribution Service that you defined during DSM installation on the Central Management Point is assigned by default to the ORG, the first region and the first site. Through inheritance, the service is also assigned to all additional regions and sites until you define a new Distribution Service.

Having created additional Management Points with a Distribution Service, you can assign another Distribution Service to a site, a region or the ORG at any time. (The Distribution Service responsible for a site is automatically responsible for all depots of this site; you can only use one Distribution Service within a site.) You control the setting for the respective object (ORG, region, site) in the configuration table under Distribution - Responsible Distribution Service. Click Browse .

Chose the Distribution Service you wish to use. If you assigned the service on the region or ORG level, the setting can be inherited by subordinate objects.

When choosing and assigning the services consider the physical network structure. A replication service should be installed on each side of a WAN connection, for example.

When you are using your own repository in a region or site, please make sure that a Management Point with an Distribution Service is available (responsible) in the same context.
Background:

The Distribution Service prepares packages for distribution in the repository master while compressing and checking the package files. We recommend not to perform these actions via WAN!
