Setting Connection Type (Distribution)

The connection type refers to the connection between the distribution source of the current object (master depot of the next-highest unit) and the current object itself (target). Using the connection type, the DSMC sets defaults for the following distribution settings (see below):

  • Frame size (4096 generally)
  • Time between frames
  • Polling intervals for the ICDB, repositories and package files
  • Each time the connection type changes and whenever you create a new site, the frame size is set to 4096. The administrator needs to customize this value to the required size; there is no standard correlation between the connection type and the frame size.
Only when DSM is configured the first time, it uses a frame size of 1024.

The cited settings can, if necessary, be adapted separately. If you change the connection type, the settings are however changed to the new defaults:

  • When you insert a site, you will be asked for the connection type.
  • When you insert a region or a depot, the connection type is set to the default: 10 MBit Ethernet.
