Setting Distribution Timeframe
With the distribution timeframe you indicate on which days of the week, at what times and at what intensity distribution to this object can occur:
- No activity
- Normal activity
- Minimum activity
- Maximum activity
See also: Adjusting Fine Settings (Distribution)
During the installation of NetInstall, Normal Activity is set for all days and times.
You can change the setting in the configuration table
in the section: Distribution > Timeframe. Click
on search to open the window. Mark the desired range
and click the button for the desired activity.
The time in the timeframe always refers to the local time at the target of the distribution, that is, where the associated Distribution Service is running. Provided the associated Distribution Service is running on a computer within the same time zone as the computer which is „behind“ the distribution target (the respective master depot or a local depot within a site), different time zones are taken into consideration automatically. Creating a separate local Distribution Services for each location (normally, for each site) will make sure that different time zones are taken into consideration.
For the distribution to function properly between several sites, the system time of all depots must be synchronized.
Interrupting the Distribution when the Timeframe is Exceeded
Let us assume that ten large _NI5.ZIP files belong to a package. The timeframe is open from 3:00 to 4:00, and the polling interval for distributing the package files is 10 minutes. Distribution begins shortly after 3:00 the next time the Distribution Service executes a polling function. Due to a slow connection, only five of the ten ZIP files can be copied by 4:00. In this case, the following occurs:
- The copying procedure for the last file that started before the timeframe was over is finished even though the timeframe was over during the copying procedure.
- The next time the timeframe is open, the Distribution Service checks all _NI5.ZIP files (compares the date and version of the source and target) and copies the undistributed ZIP files.
