Creating a Management Point

A Management Point is the basic requirement for using management applications. Jointly used components of the different management applications are managed centrally in the Management Point.

It is possible to create a Management Point for each object in the site structure (ORG, region, site).
The permission to write to the site structure must have been assigned for this to be possible.

How to create a Management Point in the site structure:

• Start the wizard that assists you with creating a Management Point at the desired location in the site structure.
• Select the Management applications you want to install on this Management Point.

  Depending on the applications you select, the system displays different wizard dialogs.
  Refer to the 'First Installation' User Guide for further details.

• Enter the name of the server where you want to install the Management Point.

  You cannot use a Management Point Server with an underscore in its name.

• Depending on the Management applications you select, DSM checks whether the management Point Server meets the necessary system requirements.
• Configure the Management applications according to your requirements in the following wizard dialogs.

• Check Skip execution in case you are not executing the installation on the Management Point server directly or you just want to create the Management Point object in the database without installation.
  To install the Management Point directly on the server later, start the displayed command line on the respective server locally.

  The system creates the Management Point object in the DSM infrastructure.
  The actual installation depends on the Skip execution option.
