Starting the Software Shop

The Software Shop can be started on any managed computer for the purpose of installing new software or maintaining installed software.

How to start the Software Shop:

  1. Under Start > Run, enter the command line niinst32 in the dialog and select OK.
  2. Interactively via the DSM Center icon in the Windows task bar and the Start Software Shop command (ClosedIllustration). Read more about this icon and the menu it opens below.

  3. Settings of the Software Shop and the Installer:
Interactively via the DSM Center icon in the Windows task bar and the Open DSM Installer Settings command.
  4. If you are working with several repositories, the Software Shop displays packages from all the repositories in whose range of validity the current computer lies.

Using the eTray menu

The DSM eTray icon displays in the Windows task bar of managed computers. End users can left-click or right-click the icon to open the DSM eTray menu, where they can start the Software Shop, open the DSM Center help, etc.

To perform the menu’s default action (which is always the boldfaced item in the menu), double-click the icon.

Modifying the DSM eTray menu

End users can edit the registry keys for the DSM eTray menu to define a new default action and add new actions, even during runtime.

To change the eTray menu’s default action:

1.Open the Windows Registry Editor on the endpoint and navigate to the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE\SOFTWARE\<Wow6432Node>\NetSupport\NetInstall\eTray

2.The default value item determines the default value in the eTray list (also shown in bold). The value refers to the specific .DLL responsible for the action. Example values are:

etabout.dll: Opens the About dialog

etsettings.dll: Opens the settings configuration page

ethelp.dll: Opens the DSM Center help

etstrtii.dll: Opens the Software Shop

To add a new eTray menu action:

1.Open the Windows Registry Editor on the endpoint and navigate to the registry key:
HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\<Wow6432Node>\NetSupport\NetInstall\eTray

2.Add a new entry. New entries can be any file not ending in .DLL (for example, explorer.exe). The path for the command is set in the default value of the new key. The name is in the 0409 subkey (language code). The Priority key, as for all entries, decides the place for this entry in the menu (0 is the highest entry).
