DSM Linux Support
DSM Linux Support allows you to roll out Universal Script Packages (USP) and the Discovery Client. With USP you get the complete scripting functionality of the Linux shell. Also, you may package all other scripts (e.g. Python, Perl) as USP, distribute them on your Linux clients and execute them there with proven and established mechanisms, such as assignments, policies and policy instances. You can view the compliance of operating system installations and package installations on Linux clients in the DSM environment. Use Linux Installer commands to distribute scripted DMG packages.
Updating Enteo v6 to DSM
In DSM 7, the former management point application OSD Proxy is split in two management applications: DSM Client Proxy and OSD Proxy. The DSM Client Proxy is part of the DSM installation and is integrated in the NetInstall license but the OSD Proxy is part of DSM OS Deployment and thus requires its own license.
When you update your Enteo v6 environment to DSM 7, make sure to install the Client Proxy to get the Linux support.
Components of the Linux Infrastructure
On server side, DSM Linux Support is implemented with the DSM Client Proxy management application. The DSM Unix Client, which is installed on the Linux clients, communicates via the Client Proxy WebService with the DSM Client Proxy, which waits for queries from the Linux clients on port 8080 (default setting).
