Do not use MAC address for identification if possible

Section:

Organization

Description:

If several computers use the same network adapter (for example, tablets that use the same docking station), a conflict may arise when identifying the devices by their MAC address.

Activate this setting to prevent this type of conflict. The MAC address is then not used for identification with a UEFI system and if a valid SMBiosGUID is available.
In all other cases, DSM must continue using the MAC address.

The MAC address of computers that are identified without their MAC address is not inventoried during client synchronization.

Notes/Warnings:

If you are using DSM OS Deployment, this setting is especially important.

If you are using SMBiosGUIDs to identify your computers and if you insert them via AutoInsert, the AutoInsert functionality applies the SMBiosGUID as computer name, for example {B61566EF-E00B-7EA1-8659-8AD6404F8ECA}.
DSM is able to process this name; however, it is passed on as NETBIOS name to Windows when the computer is installed. Since Windows cannot process NETBIOS names with curly brackets, you must rename the computer objects before being able to install the computer with OSD.
