Management Point for 'Execute changes' and Troubleshooting

Variable group:

Infrastructure (Computer)

Description:

Specifies whether the last boot server or the Management Point of the last site is preferably used to execute the Execute changes task (FastInstall) or troubleshooting tasks like e.g. Restart the DSM Client.

As a standard, DSM sends the task to the first available Management Point in the following sequence:

  • Last Boot Server
  • Management Point of the last site
  • BLS

The standard sequence equates to the Last Boot Server value.
If instead the Last Site value is specified, the sequence changes as follows:

  • Management Point of the last site
  • Last Boot Server
  • BLS

It must be ensured that an attainable Management Point is capable of triggering the respective task. The task is merely forwarded to the Management Point. If the Management Point is not able to send the task to the client via RPC, the task will not be executed!
It is therefore important that the order of the used Management Points is specified correctly.

Possible values:

Not specified, Last Boot Server, Last Site

Default value:

Not specified
(equates to: Last Boot Server)

Visibility:

Reference (via):

%CurrentComputer.Var.SystemComputerInfrastructureSettings.FastInstallRouteSelection%

Reasons for change:

If the last boot server is not able to trigger FastInstall (e.g. due to a Firewall), Last Site must be set as the value of the variable. The Management Point will then be able to execute the task.
