Infrastructure Configuration Database

The configuration of the DSM Infrastructure is saved in the Infrastructure Configuration Database (ICDB). This includes the site structure, the object properties, and all settings. The ICDB is maintained centrally and distributed via the Distribution Service to all depots.

You access the ICDB in the DSM Console by making changes to the site configuration, either in the tree view (adding, deleting objects etc.) or in the configuration table. All changes made to objects in the site structure are changes to the ICDB.

The ICDB consists of two files:

  • NICFGSRV.NCP - Server ICDB: contains all information. The server configuration database is present on each depot.
  • NICFGLCL.NCP - local ICDB: contains only that information which is needed locally (on a managed computer): the site structure itself, as well as settings for the DSM Agent and the DSM services. The local ICDB exists on every computer in the network (on each depot, each Management Point and additionally on each managed computer.)

The local ICDB is used to reduce the number of times the managed computers access the server ICDB. The local ICDB is also necessary to use Ivanti DSM offline.
The copy of the local configuration database is automatically updated by the DSM Client on managed computers.

Write Access Only on the Central Depot

The two files comprising the ICDB can only be edited at one central location in the enterprise, the master depot of the ORG, i.e. the central depot. LAN or WAN access to the central depot is required in order to change configuration data.

The depot installed first during Ivanti DSM setup automatically becomes the central depot.

Opening the Configuration

Any user who has the appropriate administration permissions) can read the ICDB. If the user wishes to edit the configuration, the ICDB must first be opened . After editing has taken place, the user can close the ICDB .
