DSM Database (DSMDB)
The DSM Database (DSMDB) is an external component of the Central Management Points. Data that is needed to distribute different packages in the organization is managed centrally in the DSMDB. A relational database management system (RDBMS) is required for the DSM Database. The RDBMS can be accessed by the Business Logic Server.
The supported database systems can be found under Database Server with the DSM Database (DSMDB).
The following data is stored in the DSMDB:
- Organization
data (installation targets)
This includes the organizational structure, the users and the computers which make up the basis of the IT management and thus are usually well-managed (Active Directory). You can import this data or enter it manually - Repositories
and packages
The packages are stored in repositories which can be distributed arbitrarily over the infrastructure. The DSMDB contains the complete information on the existing repositories and the packages stored therein. - Control
data
Packages and installation targets have different requirements which can be represented with parameters or other settings. These settings are stored in the DSMDB as control data. - Assignments
(policies)
Policies represent the assignment of packages to installation targets. All policies together make up a precise desired target state for every installation target. The DSM Client compares the existing current state with the desired state and then specifies the required jobs (actions) that are necessary to reach the desired state. - Status
data
The current state of an installation target and the respective desired state are stored in the DSMDB. This status data can be used for the Compliance Report (to evaluate the work progress in the DSMC).
