Internet Information Services (IIS)

Management applications use HTTP to transmit data between, for example, managed computers and the Management Point or between the Management Point and the Web console for the presentation of data.

The implementation used is based on Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). When installing a Management Point, the Internet Information Services must therefore have been installed on the server used.

The Internet Information Services are a prerequisite for transmitting data between computers via HTTP. Their tasks include:

  • Providing the environment for web applications
  • Setting up and monitoring HTTP connections
  • Receiving and processing HTTP requests
  • Receiving and processing SOAP requests

The Internet Information Services are part of the Windows Server operating system and are installed with this as standard. If they are not installed on a server, this can be done at a later point in time.

Generally speaking, when the Management Point is being installed, only the server on which the Internet Information Services are running needs to be selected. If other websites are already installed under these Internet Information Services, further settings may have to be made (website name, port and home directory). The further use of this Management Point server is controlled automatically by the Management Application. The user of a Management Application's console only requires the address of his Management Point to work with it.
