Computers
Computers are the most important installation targets in the DSMC.
They are administered in the organization tree in the Organization view.
Packages are actually always assigned to and installed on computers, even if the packages are intended for a specific user. When a package is therefore "installed on" a user, a dynamic group of computers is created first. The shared characteristic of this group is that the respective user logs on to these computers and then can access the package assigned to him.
Every computer
object belongs to precisely one
OU or domain and represents a computer integrated into the software
management in your network. In the organization tree, you can import
computers, create them manually, move, duplicate or delete them.
Computers can not only be assigned to OUs but also to any number of
static and dynamic groups.
It is not the usual case to include a computer manually in the organization
tree.
Computers are usually included
in the organization tree by:
- importing them from an external system (e.g. Active Directory)
- AutoInsert following the installation of the DSM Client (e.g. via logon script).
Depending on whether a computer is already managed with Ivanti DSM or not, a computer is either a managed or unmanaged computer.
Computers are displayed in the Object window with the following icons:

Moreover, different types of computers are displayed as follows:
Desktop
Laptop
PDA
Tablet
Blade
Rack
Virtual
Machine
As soon as a computer has
been imported, it has the status unmanaged. In the organization
tree, an unmanaged computer can be easily integrated in the DSM
software lifecycle using the Manage computer task.
When the computer has been integrated, the DSM Client is installed
on this computer.
