Software Sets - Areas of Use

In practice, it may be necessary to install packages together (as defined) or depending on each other.
For this reason, Ivanti DSM offers Software Sets.

Use Software Sets to combine packages to make them available to a group of users or computers. You can add the packages you want the group to receive to the Software Set. This reduces assignment efforts, thus decreasing the error ratio.

Example:
You define a software set for the user group "Marketing". This Software Set includes all applications that this group should receive: Office, Acrobat Reader and the customer database.

Advantages:

• You can easily assign all applications using the Software Set.
• To make available a new application to all marketing users, merely include it in the Software Set.

In combination with the DSM OS Deployment there is a special form of the Software Set: the OS Installation Set.
This set includes all OS packages that are needed for the complete installation and configuration of a computer with OSD. Therefore the allowed package types are specified in the OS Installation Set.
