Special Features of Software Sets

Content of a Software Set

Software sets contain the following:

  • The Software Set itself contains no installation commands or files, it merely represents a logically grouped list of packages.
  • A Software Set can only contain packages. Other Software Sets cannot be introduced to the Software Set.
  • Packages in the Software Set are arranged in a particular sequence which is observed as the execution sequence upon installation. The sequence can be easily altered via drag & drop.

Influence of the Software Set on Package Settings

The following peculiarities apply to package settings in the Software Set:

  • Installation parameters of a Software Set overwrite package installation parameters bearing the same name.
  • Packages can only be added to a Software Set if the platform requirements are compatible.

Policies for Software Sets

Basically, the same rules apply to policies of software sets as to policies of packages.

Care should be taken to ensure that a separate policy is created for every package in a software set.

Compliance Statements for the Policy Instances of Software Sets

The policy instance of a Software Set is "compliant" if...

  • the policy instances of all packages assigned as mandatory are compliant.
  • all optionally assigned packages have been installed successfully.

The policy instance of a Software Set is not "compliant" if...

  • at least one policy instance of an assigned package is not compliant.

The policy instances of a given Software Set and of the associated packages can be viewed in the DSMC.
