Active and Inactive Assignments

Policies are active by default, i.e. assignment of a package to an installation target takes effect immediately.

Deactivation of the policy means that installations/uninstallations of the affected package are no longer executed for the desired installation target. However, the policy itself is retained with all the associated settings.

  • Deactivation of a policy (in the context of an installation target or package) has the result that no derived policy instances are executed any longer, even if they themselves are still "active".
  • Deactivation of a policy instance has the result that it is no longer executed, irrespective of whether the policy itself is still "active".

Activation of a policy means that installations/uninstallations can once again be executed for the affected package and/or the installation target.

  • Activation of the policy has no effect on activation of the derived policy instances.

computers can also be activated / deactivated. The effect for the associated policies is the same.
