Criteria for Structuring the Site Structure
When you create sites and define regions, you should take the network structure into account. The physical structure of your network often reflects, for example, the geographical and administrative structure of the enterprise.
- Consider which managed computers share characteristics - for example: same department, same software in use. Group these clients together in one site.
- WAN connections should not lie within a site. Customize at least one site for every network divided by WAN connections.
When Ivanti DSM is being installed, you will create an initial site configuration with help of a wizard. It contains:
- The organization (ORG)
- A region
- A site
- A depot in the site (the central depot)
- The default repository called master (in the context of the ORG)
- A Management Point that is defined on the ORG level and is responsible for the whole infrastructure (Central Management Point)
Since this site configuration contains only one
depot, one Management Point and
one repository, you cannot yet utilize
the special capabilities of a distributed DSM infrastructure.
However, you can include further Management Points, depots, repositories,
sites or regions in the site structure. The corresponding wizard guides
you through the required steps.
