Distribution of a Management Point's Components
A Management Point bundles several server components. The Management Point components can be distributed over a maximum of two servers.
A Management Point comprises:
- Server components
- Internet Information Services (IIS)
- DSM Database (RDBMS)
The Management Point server components must be installed on one server. This server must contain the Internet Information Services.
The only component that can run on another server in the same LAN is the
- DSM Database (DSMDB)
It is not possible to give a general recommendation regarding whether one shared server or two different servers should be used, since this depends on the individual settings and server loads.
The following applies for a typical distribution of components:
- In very small networks, it may be useful to install all Management Point components on the same server. This will run without technical problems.
- Otherwise, a solution involving two separate servers should be preferred, since this impacts on the processing speed.
