Restoring the database

The first stage of setting up a completely new Ivanti Service Desk or Asset Manager system is to restore the standard Service Desk or Asset Manager database to your database server.

If you are upgrading from a previous version, you do not need to complete this step.

The standard database is available as a Microsoft SQL Server .bak file, which is available from a download link that is provided along with your license key. For more information, contact your Ivanti supplier.

SQL Server rights

Access to the database is through the Service Desk Framework web application. This Framework is configured to connect to the database using either a SQL login or using a Windows AD user. All users connected to Service Desk or Asset Manager use this login when accessing the database through the Framework. Authorisation rules are managed by the Service Desk Framework – that is the Framework decides which features each Service Desk or Asset Manager user can perform. As one of the features of Service Desk and Asset Manager is the ability to modify the schema of the database (given that Framework has authorised a Service Desk or Asset Manager user to do this), then this means that the login/user used to connect to the database server must be the database owner (dbo).
