Human Resources: Starter Process

The Starter Process provides a basic mechanism for managing the induction of a new member of staff at your organisation.

There are four main sections to this process:

The first section of the process enables you to log the initial information about the new starter, and to select which parts of the process will be needed.

The second section manages all of the tasks that need to be completed before the new starter’s first day of employment.

The third section manages the tasks that need to be completed after the new starter has arrived.

The final section is completed after the new starter has completed their probationary period.

Logging the New Starter

Process diagram

When you first log a New Starter Activity, you are asked to provide certain information about the new starter, such as who requested the new starter and some basic information about the new starter themselves.

If the new starter is an ITBM Support Analyst, select the ITBM Support Analyst check box. This makes a subsequent action Analyst Created, rather than End User Created.

When you save the changes to this window, the Select Optional Requirements window appears automatically. This enables you to specify which optional tasks will be created in the second part of the process in addition to the mandatory tasks.

When you have completed the Optional Requirements window you need to create the new starter using the Administration component, and then click the Analyst Created or End User Created action as required.

The Pre-arrival Tasks

Completing the Analyst Created or End User Created action creates all of the tasks required for the second part of the process, including the optional requirements that you specified above.

The New Starter process cannot continue to the next status until all of these tasks have been completed.

The Post-arrival Tasks

When all of the Pre-arrival tasks have been completed and the new starter has arrived for their first day of work, you can click the Confirm Arrival action. This action creates a further set of tasks.

Again, all of these tasks need to be completed before the process can move to the final stage.

Completing the Probationary Period

When all of the Post-arrival tasks have been completed and the new starter has satisfied their probationary requirements, you can click the Confirm Full Employment action. This action creates a final set of tasks. Alternatively, if the employee leaves the organisation, you can click the Terminate Employment action, which moves the process to its end status.

When all of these tasks are completed, the process can be closed.
