Viewing impact analysis in Workspaces

Impact analysis determines the impact that a change to a CI will have on other CIs, and hence the level of service that can be provided to other users. Impact analysis in Workspaces enables you to view a list of affected CIs (if any).

For information about setting up impact analysis, see the System administration section of the Service Desk and Asset Manager help center.

You need the Create privilege under Modules\Configuration Management\Non-Process Related Objects\Configuration Item Relationship to view impact analysis in Workspaces.

You can view impact analysis either from a CI window, or from a process window that includes a CI field.

To view impact analysis from a CI window:
  1. Display the required CI.
If you have the Configuration Item Relationship privilege and the CI has impacted items, Impacted Items appears in the Actions panel.
The number of impacted items is indicated after the action.
  2. Click Impacted Items.
The list of all impacted CIs appears above the CI window.
To view impact analysis from a process window:
  1. Display the required process window and select the required CI.
If you have the Configuration Item Relationship privilege and the CI has impacted items, Impacted Items appears beneath the CI list box with the number of impacted items indicated after the button.
If you have the Configuration Item Relationship privilege and the CI has no impacted items, No Impact appears beneath the CI list box.
If you do not have the Configuration Item Relationship privilege, nothing appears beneath the CI list box.
  2. Click Impacted Items.
The list of all impacted CIs appears above the process form.

The appearance of the list of impacted CIs is controlled by a new query that is added during the database upgrade called Impacted CI Summary. You can modify this query using the Query and Report Designer in Console.

You can filter the list of impacted CIs using the filter box above each column.

To close the list of impacted CIs, click x above the list.

To view further information about an impacted CI, click it in the list of impacted CIs.
