License Matching

When you import entitlement data, whenever it can, License Optimizer automatically matches license records to a product entry in the License Optimizer Software Library. Unmatched licenses are those license records that have been imported but which License Optimizer couldn't automatically match to a product in the License Optimizer Software Library.

License Optimizer displays both matched and unmatched license records on the Licenses tab of Licenses & Contracts page. Initially, the Licenses tab shows a list of the unmatched licenses. You can view matched license records by filtering the Licenses data grid using the Vendors/Products filter to show only license records for specific vendors or products.

For more information on the Licenses tab, see Licenses.

You can edit unmatched licenses individually or in bulk from the Licenses page, but it is more efficient to use the License Matching page, where License Optimizer proposes potential product matches and you can teach license matching for existing and/or future entitlement data import records.

If you make a mistake when teaching license recognition phrases, you can remove the mistaken license recognition phrases by clicking alongside the mistaught row on the Recognition Phrases tab on the Software Library page. For more information, see Software Library.

There are two ways of matching licenses, depending on whether or not License Optimizer has proposed a suitable match.

To match licenses using a proposed match:

1.Click License Matching under Entitlement on the menu bar.
The License Matching page appears, showing all unmatched license records in a data grid. For information about sorting and filtering grids, see Viewing pages of data.

The pane at the top of the page details the number of unmatched license records that License Optimizer has identified potential product matches for in relation to the total number of unmatched license records.

For information about using the Edit and Quick Edit options on the gears menu to edit unmatched licenses individually or in bulk, see Licenses.

For each record in the License Matching data grid, License Optimizer proposes potential product matches from the License Optimizer Software Library. These proposed matches appear in the drop-down lists in the Recognised Product column for each record, along with a match value in square brackets before the product name. Higher match values, which appear first in the list, represent a higher confidence in the product match. The match value is summarized in the Quality column as High, Medium, or Low, enabling you to filter the list so that you can more easily focus on high-quality potential matches.

2.Use the menu to add or remove columns on the data grid to help you identify the appropriate product.
Columns that are not initially included, but which you can add to the data grid, include columns relating to entitlement. Removing columns increases the width of the remaining columns so that you can more easily read the details of, for example, the Recognised Product column.

3.Select the required product match from the potential matches in the drop-down list in the Recognised Product column, then select the associated check box in the first column.

4.Click Commit Matches from the License Matching page gears menu.

You can select multiple records before clicking the Commit Matches option.

The Accept Matches dialog appears.

5.Select how you want to save the matches that are being committed. You can:

Assign product to selected entitlements only – assigns the selected license to the product

Assign product to selected entitlements and all similar descriptions – assigns the selected license and any similar license in the system to the product

Assign product to selected entitlements and all similar descriptions, and also for future entitlement with these descriptions – assigns the selected license and any similar license in the system to the product, along with any similar licenses that are imported in the future

CAUTION: Be very careful before using the Start Auto Matching option on the License Matching page gears menu because it resets any license matching rules that have been set.

If License Optimizer has not proposed a suitable match, you can search the software library for the correct product to match the license to.

To search for a matching product for an unmatched license:

1.On the License Matching page, click Products above the list of unmatched licenses.
The Search Product panel appears.

2.Type the product name you are searching for in the Search Product field, then click Search.
A search results list appears.

3.Select the handle handle alongside the license you want to match, and drag it onto the matching product in the search results list.
The Accept Matches dialog appears, asking how you want to accept the match.

4.Select how you want to save the match, using the options described previously.
