Setting up alerts for status changes

You must have alert-user rights to use this tool.

Xtraction enables you to define notification alerts for status changes to data-source content. Two types of alert rules are available, and you can set either type to run periodically:

Dashboard alerts: Use when you want notification that a rule was breached for components in a specific dashboard. Define these alerts for a dashboard when it's open in the Dashboard Designer.

Threshold alerts: Use as standalone rules that check for certain events that occur for specific data-source values. Create these alerts on the Alerts list page.

Dashboard alerts

Dashboard alerts are defined and edited within the dashboard they're associated with.

You can set up alert rules at the dashboard level or for a particular component on the dashboard. For dashboard-level alert rules, Xtraction checks the rules for all displayed components; if any one of the rules is breached, an alert action will occur. When set at the component level, Xtraction only checks the alert rule for that particular component. 

Alerts list page

To open the Alerts list page, click the icon in the user interface's toolbox.

From the alerts list, you can view all dashboard and threshold alert rules that you've personally defined, as well as a breach history list. Administrators can view their own alert rules and breach history list, but also have the option to view alerts defined by all other users. To do so, clear the My alerts only option in the top right corner of the page.

The alerts list also provides statistics on each of the defined alert rules. Hover over the statistics columns (last hour, today, and so on) for more information.

Threshold alerts

Unlike dashboard alerts, you create and edit threshold alerts on the Alerts list page.

Threshold alerts are designed to check for specific data-source values and can notify you when a significant event happens with your reporting data. For example, you can set a threshold alert to notify when a priority 1 incident is about to breach a service level agreement (SLA), which could have significant financial impact on your company.
