Image components

You can use the image component to display images within dashboards and documents by uploading the images to the Xtraction server or displaying them via a URL. Because of this, an image can be dynamically generated from an external application—either an application that generates images and places them on the file system, or an application that exposes a URL to dynamically generate an image.

Image components are not dependent on data and do not use a data model.

To edit image-component properties

Complete this procedure in either the Dashboard or Document Designer. This procedure assumes content from one of your data sources is already open in the details pane and that one of those panes contains an image component.

1.In the title bar of the image component you want to edit, click the icon and select Component.

2.The Image Component dialog displays the following options:

General tab

Title: Title for the image as it appears in the details pane.

Image source: Where the image comes from:

URL: Requests an image from a URL when the image component is displayed. Note that users need access to this URL when viewing the dashboard.

Server: Enables you to upload an image to the server. Use this option if you have a static image on your device that you want to display within the dashboard.

Output tab

Fill: Fill options include scale, clip, and repeat. Use scale to letterbox the image or stretch it across the details pane. Use clip to cut off the image's edges if it doesn't fit properly in the details pane. Use repeat to "tile" the image in the details pane.

Scaling: Only available if Fill is set to scale. Scaling options include letterbox and stretch.

Vertical align: Where the image is to be positioned vertically in the details pane.

Horizontal align: Where the image is to be positioned horizontally in the details pane.

Notes tab

Enter explanatory text directly into the blank area, which will display when your mouse hovers over the notes icon for the component. If Show notes is selected for an export, these notes are included in that component export.
