Create the following string value to configure the cache to be independent of the operating system registry and store the Workspace Control Agent cache updates in the DBCache folder for non-persistent/pooled VDIs.
Configuring this registry setting prevents unnecessary network traffic caused by the initial cache update. However, it may cause some additional disk I/O load on the Workspace Control cache folder when processing Datastore changes throughout the day.

Configuring this registry setting automatically converts the Update GUIDs and policy settings from the OS registry to two new XML files in the Workspace Control DBCache folder on the persistent disk:

  • UpdateGUIDs.xml

  • Settings.xml

The original registry settings under the following registry paths are kept:

  • 32-bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\RES\Workspace Manager\Settings

  • 64-bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Wow6432Node\RES\Workspace Manager\Settings

Once the Workspace Control Agent has synchronized its new cache location with the Datastore, the original registry settings can be manually removed from the Windows Registry.

The DBCache folder can be redirected using the registry setting: LocalCachePath.

After configuring the LocalCacheOnDisk registry setting, changing the Data field to No or removing the registry setting from the Workspace Control Agent causes the cache to automatically convert the two XML files back into the OS registry. Then the files are deleted from the DBCache folder.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RES\Workspace Manager (32-bit)

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\RES\Workspace Manager (64-bit)
