Display Scenarios

Ivanti Virtual Desktop Extender supports several display scenarios. Each scenario may require specific settings. For an overview of these settings, see Configuring the Behavior of the VDX Engine.

Examples of supported scenarios include:

  • A single display
In this scenario, both the local desktop and the remote desktop are run on the same display. The remote desktop is the visible desktop, showing both remote applications and local applications. The local taskbar is obscured if the remote session is maximized. With the remote session at a smaller size, two taskbars are shown: the client's taskbar and the session's taskbar.
  • A dual display setup with the remote desktop spanning both displays
In this scenario, both the local desktop and the remote desktop span two displays. The remote desktop is the visible desktop, showing both remote applications and local applications. The local taskbar is obscured if the remote session is maximized on the primary display or on both.
  • A dual display setup with the local desktop running on the primary display and the remote desktop running on the secondary display
    Both taskbars are displayed.
  • A dual display setup with a remote desktop running on the primary display and another remote desktop running on the secondary display
Both remote desktop taskbars are displayed. Local application windows can be moved from one remote desktop to the other.

Consider the following:

  • When clicking the VDX icon in the session notification area, the notification area of the local taskbar becomes visible. This behavior applies to all display scenarios.
  • The VDX desktop merging feature is only active when the remote desktop is running in full screen mode.
  • Other display scenarios may work, but Ivanti does not offer support for them.
  • The display order on both client and session sides needs to be identical.
