Known Limitations

The following VDX limitations have been identified:

All VDX Modes

Applications with a window hierarchy different than the default Microsoft Windows hierarchy may not be properly managed by VDX. With this default window hierarchy, the relation between child and owner windows is defined. Delphi applications, for example, often have a different window hierarchy than the default.

  • If VDX is integrated in Ivanti Workspace Control with the option Disable virtual Z-order for the following processes configured with an asterisk (*) or with Mode: disabled, then VDX cannot manage the multiple taskbar buttons used by Adobe Illustrator CS6 when it is started as a VDX extended application.

  • When the client taskbar is set to Auto-hide the taskbar, VDX is unable to permanently hide the taskbar when a VDX session is active.

  • When CitrixOnlinePluginWeb is used, the VDX Plugin does not install correctly. This is solvable by installing CitrixOnlineClientFull and then reinstalling VDX Plugin.

  • A hidden window from the Canon DR-M140 driver can cause a small hole in a VDX extended application (client application). Through this hole, the client desktop is visible.

  • On the Client, Microsoft Windows apps are not supported. Windows apps are supported only in VDX sessions.
Windows apps, such as Microsoft Edge, can be used on Windows 10 and are also referred to as Metro, Windows 8-style, Modern, Windows Store or Universal apps.

  • Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications cannot be started from the VDX Start Menu. UWP applications are available on Microsoft Windows 10 or later.

  • When an application is started in a remote VDX session using the Search function (available in the Start Menu of the remote session), a cut out is then visible on the screen after switching back to the VDX extended application (client application). The cut out is the size of the search window used to start the application. This occurs in the following scenario:

    • The following are running on the client side:

      • Ivanti VDX Plugin

      • Microsoft Windows 10

    • The following are running on the server side:

      • Ivanti VDX Engine

      • Microsoft Windows Server 2019

  • Known limitations related to AutoCAD and DWG Trueview:

    • In VDX sessions where multiple drawings are opened, only a taskbar icon for the main window is shown and it is not possible to minimize AutoCAD/DWG Trueview by clicking on the taskbar icon.

    • Starting or reconnecting to a VDX session while AutoCAD is already running, can lead to an extra taskbar icon for the application.

    • Opening a drawing directly from the VDX menu opens the application and file, but causes AutoCAD to be unmanaged in the session.

Ivanti strongly recommends using VDX mode a.

VDX Mode: b

Elevated applications started via VDX on the client cannot be managed properly in the remote desktop. To run elevated applications, VDX Plugin needs to run as an elevated application.

Applications that can be forced to be Always on top from within the application itself cannot be managed properly within the remote desktop.

Layered windows: Applications built with a layered structure can give unexpected results. The application or parts of the application may not be shown completely within the remote desktop.

In the above cases, Ivanti recommends to switch to VDX Mode: a.
