The Avalanche management system is comprised of several modules based on a variety of core services and several optional services. Avalanche is available for installation in two editions: Avalanche SE and Avalanche MC. For either edition, you can install the Java Console on multiple computers.
The Avalanche installation requirements are dependent on the installation type, the configuration model, and the number of devices to be supported. This section provides both minimum and recommended system requirements for the different installation types, along with additional guidelines for increasing system resources to accommodate larger numbers of devices. The minimum system requirements allow for the OS, but not for other applications running on the same system. As with any application, performance, speed, and system responsiveness will generally improve with additional RAM, processing power, and higher clock speed.

Note: If you plan to install using external databases, use the Avalanche MC distributed model system requirements.
Avalanche installs its own JRE and changes the JRE_HOME system variable. If you have a JRE already installed, it is not affected by Avalanche. However, any program using the JRE_HOME variable will be redirected to use the Avalanche JRE.
Avalanche Site Edition Requirements
Avalanche SE includes the Enterprise Server, databases, statistics server, Java Console, Mobile Device Server, and Web Console all on the same computer. The Mobile Device Server can support up to 5,000 devices.

Avalanche Mobility Center Requirements
Installation requirements for Avalanche MC are dependent on the configuration model and the number of devices to be supported. There are two configuration models for Avalanche MC:
| • | Centralized Model. In a centralized model, all of the Avalanche server modules and services are installed on a single server. Management consoles can still be used from remote workstations. If organizational needs change, a centralized installation of Avalanche MC can be reconfigured to a distributed model by deploying additional Infrastructure and Mobile Device Servers. It is not necessary to uninstall or reinstall Avalanche. |
| • | Distributed Model. In a distributed model, the Avalanche modules and services can be spread over several servers. These servers can be located side by side in the same server farm or located across the enterprise. Some reasons to use a distributed model include, but are not limited to: network bandwidth, network availability, redundancy, and organization of supported devices. |

Centralized Model Requirements
When Avalanche MC is installed using a centralized model, the Enterprise Server, databases, statistics server, Mobile Device Server, Infrastructure Server, Java Console and Web Server are all installed on the same computer. Each Mobile Device Server can support up to 5,000 devices. Each Infrastructure Server can support up to 1,000 devices, including access points, switches, and access ports.

Distributed Model Requirements
When Avalanche MC is installed using a distributed model, Mobile Device Servers and Infrastructure Servers can be installed on different computers. Each Mobile Device Server can support up to 10,000 devices. Each Infrastructure Server can support up to 3,500 devices, including access points, switches, and access ports.
Note: In a distributed model, the Enterprise Server, Statistics Server, and any Mobile Device Servers can be installed on a Linux OS. The Avalanche Java Console and any infrastructure servers must be installed on a Windows OS. When you have Avalanche components installed on Linux computers, you can install the databases on the same machine as the Enterprise Server or on a separate machine. Avalanche Console Only Requirements
The Java Console is included with the other installation options, but the standalone installer allows you to install additional remote Consoles. The Console is used with Avalanche MC and Avalanche SE.
