Creating a Group Location

Creating group locations allows flexibility in assigning profiles. Use selection criteria to define your groups. Then apply a profile to the groups with devices that should use the profile.

Example Location View

For example, if Group A has the selection criterion: ModelName = ITCCK30, any Intermec CK30 devices automatically appear in the Group A inventory when they connect to the server.

A group location that has sub-locations does not use selection criteria. Instead, these "parent" groups display all of the devices that are included in the sub-locations.

A device can belong to more than one group location concurrently. If a device is included in more than one group location, it will use the profiles from the highest priority location. Locations are assigned priority as they are created, so the first location you create has the highest priority.

Note:   If the device does not match the selection criteria for any group locations, it will not appear in the Inventory panel when it connects to the server. Wavelink recommends having at least one group location that uses only the selection criterion ModelName = "*" to ensure that you can see all devices that connect using your company ID. This location should be created last so that it has the lowest priority.

To create a group location:

1   Navigate to the location where you want to place the group location and click the Locations context link.
2   In the Sub-locations panel, click New.

The New Subordinate Location dialog box appears.

3   Click Group.

The New Group Location page appears.

4   Type a name for the group location.
5   If you do not want inherited profiles and device groups to be visible, enable the Hide inherited profiles and device groups option.
6   Use the Selection Criteria Builder to configure unique selection criteria for the group location.
7   Click Save.

A group location appears under the selected location. The mobile devices meeting the specified selection criteria will be assigned to the group location.
