Licensing

Avalanche requires one license for each mobile device it manages. When a device server detects a new device, a license request is sent to the License Server. The License Server then sends a license to the device server to be distributed. The license file is unique to the server and cannot be transferred to another server. Once the device receives the license, Avalanche can manage that device. If a license expires or is released, the license returns to the pool of licenses at the License Server until it is requested by another device server.

For users’ convenience, some licenses may come with a license start date. You can activate these licenses and they will appear in the Licensing dialog box, but the License Server will not distribute them until the date specified.

To obtain or upgrade Avalanche licenses, please contact Ivanti customer service or a sales representative.

Avalanche has the following licensing options:

Base licenses support any version of Avalanche that is the same or older than the license.

Maintenance licenses support any version of Avalanche with the same major release number as the license. You must have one base license for each distributed maintenance license.

The license version number must match the server version number. Licensing only takes into account the major and minor release numbers. For example, a 5.3.1 server would use a 5.3 license.

There are two types of device licenses available: licenses for smart devices, and licenses for AIDC devices. In order to manage your devices through Avalanche, you must have a license of the correct type for each device you want to manage. When you run Avalanche without licenses, the device may appear in the inventory list but you will not be able to manage or deploy profiles to it.
