Enabling Secure Communication

When you use the Studio application, by default it connects to the server and applications using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which is not encrypted. If you want your information to be encrypted, you can configure Studio to use HTTPS with an SSL certificate instead.

If you intend to use Studio with an SSL certificate for a secure connection, you have the options of purchasing a certificate through a third-party Certificate Authority (such as Verisign) or creating a self-signed certificate.

If you use a self-signed certificate for the Web Console, a web browser may not recognize the certificate and displays warning messages that the site is not trusted. The browser may require you to make an exception in order to connect. The connection will be encrypted, however. Wavelink recommends obtaining a certificate signed by a certificate authority like Verisign.

These instructions explain how to generate certificates using OpenSSL. Wavelink does not include OpenSSL with Studio or install it for you. The install files can be found on the OpenSSL Web site.
