Managing Smart Mobile Device Profiles

Use a Smart mobile device profile to change settings on your Smart devices, such as iPads, iPhones, and Android tablets and smartphones. A Smart mobile device profile has payloads associated with it. Each payload contains specific settings. (For example, a WiFi payload can contain the SSID and password for a WiFi network.)

To manage Wavelink applications on Smart devices, use an application configuration profile. The payloads associated with an application configuration payload are specific to the application you are managing.

If you want to perform tasks such as locking or unlocking a device, see Device Tasks from the Avalanche Console.

If you want to manage settings for WindowsCE, Windows Mobile, Palm, or DOS devices, use an AIDC mobile device profile. For information about AIDC mobile device profiles, see Managing AIDC Mobile Device Profiles.

The settings in the payloads are only sent to the devices after the payloads are associated with a profile, and the profile is enabled and applied to a folder. When there are multiple profiles applied to the folder that the device is in, the device can receive payloads from all of the applied profiles. However, each device can only receive one Restrictions payload and one Passcode payload. If there is more than one Restrictions or Passcode payload applied, the device will use the payload with the highest priority.

When a payload is removed from a profile, the settings associated with the payload are deleted from the device. For example, if you use a profile to send WiFi settings to a device, then later you remove the payload from the profile associated with the device, when the device syncs the WiFi credentials are deleted from the device.

The folder selected in the Navigation Tree when you create the profile will be the profile's home folder.
