Studio Client User Guide

This section is a guide to the functions and components of the Wavelink Studio Client. This document includes information on how to run and configure the Studio Client. The Studio Client supports applications for Wavelink Studio versions 3.6–5.1.

For Wavelink Studio applications, major application functions are carried out on the system hosting the Wavelink Server. The Studio Client is responsible for communicating with the Studio Server and displaying relevant application information to the mobile device.

Studio Client software runs on the mobile device, allowing access to the device-specific features such as barcode scanners, audio tones, specialized input peripherals, radio hardware, and backlights.

A few of the benefits derived when using Studio Clients with Studio applications include:

Control Over Device Features

The Client integrates with the unique hardware requirements of Studio Client mobile devices. Consequently, when you install the Client, you retain full control over the device’s functionality.

Event-driven Architecture

The Client’s unique event-driven architecture minimizes wireless traffic by sending data packets only when prompted by user actions. This architecture ensures that communication between a device and a server is as efficient as possible.

Client-side Menus

The Client can save commonly-used files and menus, such as barcode configuration files, directly to the device.

AutoDiscovery

Once you install a Wavelink Studio Client, Wavelink’s AutoDiscovery technology allows your mobile devices to automatically discover and access applications across a wireless network.

The Desktop Studio Client is included in the Studio 5.0 Windows server installation. It is designed to simulate the behavior of a Studio Client from a Windows desktop. It includes a scanner emulator so you can test scanning functionality.
