Icons and menu options
Function | Description |

Search - Find specific files and/or folders in any of your File Director folders. Tap and enter your search criteria - the results are refined as you enter text. Searches are conducted from the current folder downward. So to search all folders, go to the root of map point and search from there. | |
File Director - Tap the icon to return to the folder you were previously viewing. Double-tap the icon to go to the map point listing. | |
History - Shows list of all the files you have uploaded and downloaded. Tap a file to navigate to its location in File Director. | |
Queue - Tap the icon to show a list of files currently being downloaded and their progress. Tap a file and select the required option to Pause or Abort a download. | |
Settings - View memory usage and update History settings. | |
Share - Share files from File Director with others, giving selected contacts access to the files via the Web Client. | |
Open in - Use other apps installed on your device to open files in File Director. The apps available are relative to the file you have selected. | |
Download
- Save files from the server to your device. Tap Select from the drop-down menu, select the required files, and tap the Download icon. The selected files are downloaded to your device and added to your History. |

Transfer
- Move or copy files to your other File Director folders. Tap Select, select a file, tap the Transfer icon, and choose a destination for the file. You can only transfer one file at a time. |

Delete
- Remove downloaded or recent files from your device or delete
them from your server. Tap the Edit icon, select the required files, and tap the delete icon. |
Menu options
Access the following additional actions from the drop-down menu in the File Director iOS app:
- Sort - Order the files and folders in any of your File Director folders. Tap to sort your files by Name, Date Created, Date Updated, Last Viewed, Size, or Type.
- Select - Make files selectable so they can be deleted, downloaded, and transferred. Folders can only be deleted. Tap and select the required files and/or folders.
- New Folder - Create a new folder in the current location. Tap the Folder icon, enter a name for the folder, and tap Create.

Add files - Opens a list of apps or locations from which you can directly upload files to the current File Director folder. You can also pull in files from apps such as Dropbox.
Swipe menu
Single files can be swiped left to display individual file options. You can Delete the file or tap More for the following options:
- Share
- Download
- Move/Copy
- Rename
- Open in (only available for compatible files)
The options that display depend on the status of the file. For example, you do not have the options to share or rename a read-only file.
Uploads and downloads
You can upload files your File Director server in the following ways:
- When logged into File Director on Windows, by saving files to any writable location in your File Director folder.
- Adding files using the File Director Web Client.

Using the iOS app, by uploading files from other providers.
Uploading files from an iOS device to File Director takes place outside the File Director app. For example, to upload a Word file, save the file locally to a File Director folder. The Word file is queued, and then uploaded to File Director the next time you access the File Director app. Uploading files from an iOS device to File Director takes place outside the File Director app. For example, to upload a Word file, save the file locally to a File Director folder. - You cannot upload files to read-only folders.
Using File Director's policy settings, an organization can restrict who has access to File Director and what actions they can perform. For example, access can be restricted by platform, IP address, and Organizational Unit (OU).
Administrators can also apply policy settings to prevent users uploading files, printing, and copying data from mobile devices.
If you have any queries about your organization's policy settings, contact your IT Support department.

In the photos app, select a photo and tap the upload icon.
You can select multiple photos for upload.

Select File Director from the apps and activities available for sharing.
If File Director is not listed, tap More. In Activities, set the toggle switch to enable uploads to File Director and tap Done.
- Supply the Touch ID for File Director. You are prompted for your Touch ID every time File Director returns from the background.
- Navigate to the folder to which you want to upload the file.
- Tap Send.
- The file is uploaded
File Director offers two methods to save single files locally to view offline.
- Open the folder and tap the file that you want to download.
- The file downloads and you can view it.
- Swipe left to view other files in the folder.
- Files that are not downloaded display a cloud icon. Tap the Download icon to download a file.
- The file downloads and opens for viewing.
- Repeat the process to download and view more files.
- Swipe left on the file that you want to download and tap More.
- Tap Download.
- The file downloads.
- The file displays the downloaded overlay and are available in your history folder.
- In the folder that contains the files you want to download, tap the menu icon.
- Tap Select from the menu.

Select the files you want to download.
You cannot download folders. To download the contents of a folder, open that folder and select the files within it.
- Tap the download icon.
- The selected files are downloaded.
- The files display the downloaded overlay and are available in your history folder.
Share files
Multiple files
- In the folder you want to download files from, tap the menu icon.
- Tap Select from the menu.
- Select the files you want to share.
- Tap the share icon.
- Enter the email addresses of the users you want to share the file(s) with. Tap return to add another email address.

Enter a name for the share.
This is optional but it helps you and any recipients identify shares in the web console. If you do not enter a name, the share is automatically name Shared Files. This could lead to confusion with multiple shares having the same name. Share names cannot include the % character.
- Tap Share.
The server sends an email to the specified address(es) containing a link to the current version of the file(s) at that time.
Single files
- Swipe left on the file you want to download and tap More.
- Tap Share.
- Enter the email addresses of the users you want to share the file(s) with. Tap return to add another email address.

Copy and move files
File Director files can be transferred to other folders.
- Locate the folder that contains the files you want to move or copy and tap Select.
- Select the files.
- Tap the transfer icon.
- Navigate to the folder to which you want to transfer the files.

Tap Move or Copy.
If the move option is not enabled, the originating folder might be read-only. Contact your IT Support department for further information.
The files are moved or copied to the selected location.
Single files can also be moved or copied from the swipe menu. Select Move/Copy, navigate to the required folder, and select whether you want to move or copy the file.
Rename files
Rename File Director files using the Swipe menu options.
- Swipe the file you want to rename and tap More.
- Tap Rename.
- Change the name of the file.
- Tap Rename to confirm the new name for the file.
Remove files from iOS devices
When you remove files and folders from your device they remain on the server, available to download on any of your File Director devices, desktops and the web client.
To remove a file locally, but retain it on the server:
- Swipe the file.
- Tap More
- Tap Remove Download.
- In the folder that contains the files and folders you want to delete. open the context menu and tap Select.
- Select one or more files and folders.
- Tap the delete icon.

Confirm the delete.
If you have warning messages for deleting files switched off, the file is deleted immediately without you having to confirm.
Selected files and folders and their contents are removed from your device.
Using the History Usage setting, you can remove files based on when you last viewed them.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap History Usage.

Choose one of following Remove files viewed since options:
- Now (Remove All)
- 1 Day Ago
- 1 Week Ago
- 4 Weeks Ago
You can remove all File Director files and folders from your iOS device by changing your account settings.
