Gathering Inventory Data

The CAM Agent gathers two types of file identification information:

  • Basic file information consisting of installation path, file name, size, date, and time stamp. (Windows and Mac OS machines.)
  • Extended file information including versioning from the file header and calculation of a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC). Extended file information is only collected if the Collect extended inventory information check box in the Options tab of the machine's Properties dialog box is marked. (Windows machines only.)
Basic file information is sufficient to recognize and match data contained in the Cherwell Software Identification Database (CSID) for Windows applications. Extended file information is useful for unconfigured files, as it gives you more information you can use to manually configure an application.

Inventory Scan Frequency (Windows Machines Only)

On the Inventory tab in the Agent Options dialog box, you can configure the inventory agent to perform a complete scan every <n> days, weeks, or months.
