Create New AutoInsert Rule

Use this wizard to automatically move computers or users that had been added to the organization tree before with AutoInsert to the appropriate container.

To create AutoInsert rules, please proceed as follows:

  1. Select the root of the Organization Tree.
  2. Choose the Manage AutoInsert Rules task.

This opens the AutoInsert Rule Management.

  3. If required, click the Create Rule button on theComputer or User tab.

    The first wizard page opens.
Depending on the tab you selected, you can either create a computer or user rule.

  4. Enter the name and other properties for the rule, such as the import source, the import criteria and the target container for your configuration.
A rule comes with the following specific properties:
  5. Entry Meaning

    Name

Determines the unique name for the rule.

    Is active

Determines whether the rule is applied or ignored during evaluation.
If it is ignored, the evaluation will continue with the next rule.

    Evaluation order

The evaluation order is a number that determines which rules will be checked for new computers or users in ascending order.
If an (active) rule applies, the object will either be inserted or ignored, depending on the rule. Basically, the evaluation is finished, as soon as the first rule applies.

The evaluation order of the individual rules for computers or users is determined by clicking or interactively moving the respective object. You cannot enter a number for the evaluation order or have the wizard enter one.

    If rule applies

Determines how the evaluation order will be continued after a rule has been met. The value No further evaluation is the default setting for AutoInsert rules; it cannot be changed.

This value ensures that only one rule applies, never more than one and never several rules at the same time.

    Import Source

NetInstall: Computers or users which the DSM client automatically signs on to the DSMDB.

OSD: Computers that are signed on to the DSMDB automatically because they have been reinstalled via DSM OS Deployment.

Business Logic Server: Computers that are Business Logic Server in the DSM infrastructure.

Any: All computers or users that are signed on automatically to the DSMDB, either via DSM client or OSD.

Integration: All computers that log on automatically via the HEAT/ITSM integration interface.

    Container

The domain or OU in the organization tree where the computer or user will be displayed automatically.

    Allow AutoInsert

Determines whether a computer or user the rule applies to is actually inserted automatically or ignored.

    Import Filter

Specifies the import criteria that can be edited with the LDAP Filter Editor.

    Operation Mode
    (only for computers)

The operation mode to be automatically given to a computer which in the future appears for the first time in the selected domain or OU, i.e. active oder inactive

  6. Close the wizard.

The new AutoInsert rule you created according to your settings will be added to the Computer or User tab in the AutoInsert Management.

  7. Right-click the new rule to move it and to specify the evaluation order.
  8. Click Close to save your changes.

    This also closes the dialog.

The system does not allow defining AutoInsert rules with identical Import sources and Computer types or overlapping IP ranges.
