Creating New Packages for Terminal Server

Generally, the procedure of creating new packages for Terminal Servers is the same as creating MSI Packages or using the NetInstall Spy to analyze packages for FAT clients.

Please refer toModifying Existing Packages (WTS) for more information on how to configure the links so that the user portion will only be installed on demand for the individual users.

Using the NetInstall Spy

Analyze the installation process on a FAT client (a "normal workstation").
For analyzing on a Terminal Server, you must switch to WTS Install Mode at runtime for the installation. The resulting problems (registry mapping, INI mapping, etc.) distort the analysis results, sometimes making the resulting package unusable.

We recommend making the following settings on NetInstall Spy when analyzing:

  • Activate the use of the additional options by switching the following settings in the configuration table to yes: NetInstall Spy > Display advanced options. The setting is only visible in expert mode and on the ORG level.
  • Analyze the initial system status: Select Change INI analysis options.
  • Select the option Include files with other extension than INI. Otherwise the changes will not be inherited correctly by other configuration files (such as *.CFG).
  • Turn off the analysis of system-level changes. (This option is activated by default).
  • If you save data on the terminal server user share, include that drive in the analysis.
  • Follow the additional steps as before for packages for FAT clients.
